Cosmetic acupuncture is an alternative to traditional surgery in fighting the signs of aging. Acupuncture is reported to reduce wrinkles, diminish fine lines, remove age spots and lift droopy eyelids. The treatment is reported to stimulate the production of collagen to help plump and firm the skin by improving the flow of energy (“qi” or “chi”) throughout the body. There is, however, no scientific evidence to support this claim (Wong, 2013).
The treatment may be done over 10 or more sessions, with additional monthly or bi-monthly sessions needed for maintenance after the initial ten sessions. The cost of treatment may start around $1,200. Each session may take 40-60 minutes and may involve 60-70 needles.
Do your homework and meet with several qualified practitioners before opting for this procedure. Ask about their qualifications (how many they have performed), look at before/after photos and ask for references.
